WHO ARE WHAT IS LEADING YOU?

                   I’m not going to sugar-coat this. Let’s just say I’m taking the “bull by the horns” on this topic. People often say, “I’m spiritual.” But what exactly does that mean? 

Who or what are you referring to? And perhaps more importantly: 

Who or what is leading you? Because not everything that calls itself “spiritual” is leading you in the same direction. 

               As a Christian, I believe there is a distinction between spirituality that draws us toward God and practices that draw us away from Him. Scripture repeatedly calls us to exercise discernment and to be careful about what we allow to influence our hearts, minds, and lives. So, if you tell me you're spiritual, I want to know: Who is the source of your spirituality? 

• BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU FOLLOW

There are people searching for direction, peace, healing, purpose, and answers in places that Scripture tells us to avoid. Some turn to practices involving communicating with spirits or attempting to obtain supernatural guidance apart from God. It may seem harmless.

It may even appear exciting or comforting at first. But as a believer, I don't believe every spiritual door is a door we should walk through. Scripture gives us a clear warning:

“Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him, for what he deserves will be done to him.”  — Isaiah 3:11 Let me be clear, this is not about judging people. It is about discernment. You have to be careful about what, even whom you invite into your life, what you place your trust in, and what you allow to influence your decisions. Jesus demonstrated this clearly when He was tempted by Satan: “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.” — Matthew 4:10. God doesn't ask you to divide your allegiance. He never will.

• WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE?

Some people place their trust in crystals. And so I have to ask: What exactly are the crystals telling you? A crystal is a created object.

▪It didn't create you.

▪It didn't create your purpose.

▪It didn't create your future.

▪It didn't create the universe.

So why would I look to creation to tell me who I am when I can look to the Creator? The Bible says: “Abstain from every form of evil.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:22 My faith teaches me to look to God—not objects—for direction, identity, and spiritual authority. 

• THE UNIVERSE

Some say, “THE UNIVERSE” is guiding me.” Here’s my question: Who created the universe? The Bible gives us the answer: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God.” — Hebrews 11:3. And Genesis begins with: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” So why substitute the Creator with His creation? Why look to the universe for guidance when you can look to the One who created it? Don't confuse the creation with the Creator.

• WORSHIP THE SUN, MOON AND STARS

Some people look to the moon, stars, planets, or other elements of creation for direction. But consider this: God made them. The sun rises. The moon appears. The stars occupy their places. The seasons change. Creation operates according to the order established by its Creator. So I have to ask: How can creation become the authority over your life when creation itself is subject to the Creator?

▪The moon didn't make you.

▪The stars didn't give you your purpose.

▪The ocean didn't give you your assignment. 

GOD DID.

• WORSHIP OF NATURE

It is interesting  when I hear someone say, “I'm one with nature.” Or ”I worship nature.” Okay,  I  appreciate nature and it’s beauty. The animals, plants, trees, oceans, mountains, and the incredible world around us. But appreciating God's creation is not the same thing as worshiping creation. The book of Genesis tells us that God created the land, seas, vegetation, birds, sea creatures, animals, and humanity. Creation points us toward the greatness of its Creator, not the greatness of the creation because creation is evidence of God's handiwork, but IT IS NOT GOD, that's an important distinction. 

▪The things God created can provide food. They can provide shelter. They can provide beauty. They can sustain aspects of our physical lives. But :

-Can a tree answer your deepest prayer?

-Can the ocean forgive your sins?

-Can the stars restore your broken heart?

-Can a plant give you eternal peace?

NO. Because they are creation. God is the Creator.

• WHAT ABOUT IDOLS?

Some people go even further and place their trust in physical idols or statues. But an object created by human hands cannot become God simply because we assign spiritual significance to it. The bible warns us about this repeatedly. Psalm 135 describes idols as “having mouths but not speaking, eyes but not seeing, and ears but not hearing.” And  Exodus 20:3-4 gives the command: “You shall have no other gods before me.”

Think about it.

▪A statue cannot answer your prayer.

▪A piece of wood cannot determine your destiny.

▪A piece of metal cannot save your soul.

▪An object cannot replace God.

      WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? Maybe you're searching for peace. Maybe you're searching for healing. Maybe you're searching for direction. Maybe you're searching for purpose. Maybe you're trying to understand why your life has taken the turns it has taken. Maybe you've been looking everywhere for something—or someone—to tell you who you are. But perhaps you've been looking in the wrong direction.

It's not the plant. It's not the animal. It's not the statue. It's not the stars,  the moon or the universe. It's not an object. Look to the Creator. Look to God. And if you're looking for someone to anchor your life to, I invite you to consider Jesus Christ. Because Christianity isn't simply about finding something spiritual to believe in. It is about knowing the One who created you, loves you, calls you, and gives your life purpose. Jesus said: “Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” — Mark 11:24 

      Before you follow something because it calls itself spiritual, stop and ask yourself one question: 

           WHO OR WHAT IS LEADING YOU? Because where you look for guidance matters. What you trust matters. What you worship matters. And  ultimately. 

            Who you choose to follow matters. 

            Choose God. Choose Jesus. Choose the Creator over the creations.
